I was searching for a fast, easy and FREE way to toggle Bluetooth/WiFi on my Macbook Pro and after doing a Google search, I came up with several Applescripts to test out. Unfortunately, all of these scripts were incompatible with the latest version of Mavericks, or I just did not know how to get them to work properly. After a couple hours or trying, I gave up.
I then decided to go into the Preferences of what is probably my most beloved and most used app, BetterTouchTool. I knew that I could assign triggered actions sequentially, so I came up with the idea to assign a single shortcut to trigger a series of other shortcuts that would enable me to:
1. Bring the Bluetooth menubar item into focus with Control F8
2. Press the down arrow to select ‘Turn Bluetooth On/Off’
3. Press Enter to activate it
I ran into some problems at first and finally figured out that I had to insert a ‘Delayed’ 0.1 ms action in between some of the shortcuts to make everything work correctly. Below is a screenshot of how I’ve set it up in BTT. You can configure a single shortcut to toggle Bluetooth or yourself by using my screen shot as a guideline. If you use BTT on a regular basis, this should be pretty straightforward. I’ve assigned my F11 and F12 keys to toggle Bluetooth and WiFi respectively.
I’m really happy that I didn’t have to purchase Bluetoggle or Airtoggle just to get this functionally I figured out a way to use it for this situation. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!
